Angie Cabrera, Plymouth, MN

Angie used her Dream Award to buy a laptop and video camera to record family events and to keep in touch with friends and family while going through treatment. She is now able to help her children with their school work, as well as edit family photos and videos to leave a legacy of special family moments.

Linda Cunningham, Pierz, MN

Linda is using her Dream Award to improve her living conditions in her 14 foot long 1954 travel trailer. Her trailer has no heat or running water, and by receiving this Dream Award she will be able to make improvements to her quality of life.

Deborah Fjeld, Coon Rapids, MN

Deborah is using her Dream Award to finish taking her classes to achieve a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Karate has helped Deb de-stress, work her body to be strong, improve her confidence and given her a goal for the future that isn’t based on her survival rate percentage.

Kay Glasgow, St. Paul, MN

Kay used her Dream Award to bring her family from California and Indiana in to spend time with her over the holiday season. She was able to fly her daughter and grandchildren to Minnesota and go skiing and snowboarding at Buck Hill, bowling and movie nights, and go out to a family dinner for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Amy Hansmann, White Bear Lake, MN

Amy will be using her Dream Award to take her family of 6 on a dream vacation to Disney World. Her two oldest children were promised years ago that they would get to go, but two more children came along and the cost for a family of 6 to go to Disney was too much. This trip will provide memories for the entire family to treasure.

Ruth Johnson, Stanchfield, MN

Ruth will be using her Dream Award to travel to Germany with her husband to visit their former foreign exchange student. Having her exchange student in the house gave a Ruth reason to get up in the morning when she wasn’t feeling well. Ruth has promised her that they would travel there in the summer of 2009, but with the costs of medical bills, her and her husband were not sure they’d be able to go, but now they will be able to go.

Roxanne Kjarum, Minneapolis, MN

Roxanne will be using her Dream Award to make repairs that are desperately needed on her home. Her chimney was falling apart, water damage in the living room and bathroom, and a new roof was needed. With this Dream Award she will now be able to make the repairs needed to make her house feel like a home.

Aissata Koneh, Brooklyn Park, MN

Aissata will use her Dream Award to help pay off her loan that she has had to refinance in order to pay for bills, food and caring for her children while undergoing treatment. Her dream was to work towards being debt free so she can be financially independent and provide the best for herself and her kids.

Rhonda Lundquist, Falcon Heights, MN

Rhonda will be using her Dream Award for a six week writing retreat to create a memoir of her family & life for the benefit of her son, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. She was the first in her family to attend college, and worked her way through both undergrad and graduate school. She was diagnosed shortly after completing her MFA in Creative Writing. This Dream Award will enable her to accomplish her life long dream.

Ingrid Poerwantini, Crystal, MN

Ingrid will use her Dream Award to bring her nieces and parents over to visit from Indonesia. She has a young daughter with cerebral palsy and also cared for her nieces as their mother since they were abandoned at a young age. She hasn’t seen her nieces in 8 years since she left Indonesia as a political refugee. Because she never formally adopted her nieces she was not able to bring them to the US with her and was forced to leave them in her parents care.

Theresa Schroer, Golden Valley, MN

Theresa will be using her Dream Award to take her husband and daughter to visit New York City. She wants to be able to skate with her daughter, Emma, at Rockefeller Center. Emma has been skating since she was 4 years old and they even had taken lessons together. This will enable her to share this experience with her daughter and fulfill her dream.

Astrid Slungaard, Minneapolis, MN

Astrid will be using her Dream Award to finish writing her book as well as travel to Norway to interview her cousins who are also affected by the BRCA gene. She honed her skills at the Loft literary Center and has had a few works published. Her book will expand on an essay she originally wrote for an anthology. This Dream Award will ensure that she is able to complete her draft in 2009.
