Purpose
Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance will be awarding up to $375,000 in May, 2008 to provide opportunities for professionals to either initiate new studies or continue current research on ovarian cancer.
Special Funding for Research by Gynecologic Oncology Fellows
Of the $375,000, up to $50,000 will be available for research to be conducted by fellows in gynecologic oncology. The application timeline and requirements for these proposals are the same as for our general research funding. The proposals from fellows will be reviewed by national experts and consumer reviewers and will be ranked against other research proposals by fellows. Proposal requests from fellows may not exceed $25,000.
Eligibility
Research proposals may be individual projects or part of a larger research project related to ovarian cancer. Awards will be granted only to projects conducted in the state of Minnesota by Minnesota-based researchers. All research proposals will be considered, however, special consideration will be given to proposals dealing with treatment.
Grant proposals may not exceed $100,000.
Selection
Recommendation of award recipients will be made by experts in ovarian cancer research, MOCA board members, and at-large MOCA members. The recommended awards will be voted on by the MOCA Board of Directors.

Application requirements
Proposals shall include the following:
- Abstract of proposed research- rationale of the study, aims, and a brief overview of research design and methods.
- Research proposal- presented in NIH format, not to exceed 6 pages. Additional supporting information may be provided in addendum form if deemed essential.
- Budget- detailing direct cost expenditures. No miscellaneous costs shall be included. All costs must be itemized. MOCA funds cannot be used for indirect costs, PI salary replacement, or travel.
- Statement of career goals- one page.
- Curriculum vitae- including education, honors, professional experience, publications, grants.
- Letter of recommendation- from the relevant person overseeing the institution, department, or lab where the research will be conducted.
- Project timeline- detailing the expected chronological progress of research goals.
- Review of similar studies- discussing similar studies underway or pending which might influence subject accrual.
All proposals must be received in the MOCA office by:
3:00 pm on March 7, 2008.
