SUPPORT GROUPS FOR WOMEN AFFECTED BY OVARIAN CANCER

Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA) offers support groups in various areas of Minnesota for women living with ovarian cancer:

Minneapolis MOCA provides an ongoing ovarian cancer support group on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. The meetings are held at MOCA’s new office at 4604 Chicago Ave. South. Primary facilitator: Judy Prokosch. You may join at anytime.

St. Paul This ovarian cancer support group meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Meetings are held in the Jane Wallace Fine Arts Center Lounge in room #104 at Macalester College. Primary facilitator: Marge Higgins.

Young Survivor Network The members of this group range in age from late teens to early 40s. They deal with issues which are unique to them, including the loss of fertility, forced menopause, raising young children while going through chemotherapy and sexuality/body image. The group meets at 6:30 on the third Tuesday of every month at MOCA, 4604 Chicago Avenue South. They also stay connected through emails and occasional get-togethers, which may be social in nature or support MOCA’s mission.

Daughters Group for Women Who Have Lost Their Mothers to Ovarian Cancer – This group meets quarterly at MOCA, 4604 Chicago Avenue South in Minneapolis. Call Kristen for dates and times.

Southeastern Minnesota The meeting dates for this ovarian cancer support group are to be determined. Meetings will be held at Assisi Heights in the Earth Room. (Enter on the back side of the building). Primary facilitators: Jean Wagner and Sarah Keller.

St. Cloud Coming soon! Please watch the MOCA website and the MOCA Messenger for more information on this upcoming support group.

Are You New To MOCA?
Have you been recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer?
Have you just learned about MOCA?
Are you experiencing a recurrence?
Are you a family member or friend who wants to lend support to a loved one?

We have MOCA members who are willing to talk and share their stories and experiences with other survivors. If you call our office at 612/822-0500 we can introduce you to another survivor of a similar age and/or stage. We also provide assistance to family members – husbands/partners who would like to talk to others in the same situation and daughters or sisters who are providing care for a loved one and would like support.

Some women like to attend the MOCA meetings to socialize with other survivors and learn about treatment options available. Others would prefer to meet another survivor for coffee. We want to meet the needs of our members – please let us know what MOCA can do for you and how you want to connect with us. Providing support to women with ovarian cancer and their families is an important part of our mission and we need your help to successfully achieve this. Please feel free to call our office at 612/822-0500 or email Kristen at
klarson@mnovarian.org.
